How to Set Up a Christmas Photo Booth at Church

Posted by ChurchBanners.com on 28th Oct 2026

A Christmas photo booth is one of the simplest ways to add something extra to your church's Christmas events. Families dress up for Christmas Eve, the children's program and the fellowship dinner, and a backdrop with your church's name on it gives them a place to take the photo they'll share all season. Here's how to set one up with a backdrop and a few handheld signs.

Family posing with a Merry Christmas handheld sign in front of a red Merry Christmas fabric backdrop with a gold angel and the church name, set on a black backdrop stand in a fellowship hall

Start with the Backdrop

The backdrop is the photo. Put your church's name on it so every picture shared from the event carries it. Every stock design can be personalized free of charge with your church name, event, colors and logo.

Fabric backdrop on a stand. Our Christmas backdrop banners include fabric backdrops like Merry Christmas (CB156), printed on 9 oz. soft polyester backdrop fabric in 8' x 8' or 8' x 10'. Order it print only, or add the backdrop stand. Turnaround is 3 days plus shipping.

Tension backdrop display. Designs like the Merry Christmas angel backdrop (NXM059 R) also come as a tension display in 8ft x 8ft or 8ft x 10ft, with an optional aluminum tube frame and carrying bag, or print only. The tension display is our only backdrop that can be printed double sided. Turnaround is 2 days plus shipping.

Add Handheld Signs

Handheld signs give people something to hold and make the photo feel like a celebration. Merry Christmas (CHH048) is $29, printed on lightweight 3mm Sintra in 18" x 18" or 23" x 23". Stock designs are single sided, and personalization is free. More designs are in our handheld signs collection.

Popular sayings for photo booth signs:

  • Merry Christmas
  • Joy to the World
  • Christmas at [Your Church Name]
  • Our First Christmas Here
  • O Come Let Us Adore Him
  • Glad You're Here

Where to Use It

  • Christmas Eve services. Set the backdrop in the lobby or fellowship hall so families can take a photo before or after the service.
  • Children's Christmas program. Kids in costume make some of the best photos of the year.
  • Fellowship dinners and parties. Set it up near the entrance so guests see it as they arrive.
  • Pictures with Santa or a live nativity. The backdrop gives every photo a finished look.

Photo Booth Tips

  • Assign a photographer. A volunteer who offers to take the picture keeps the line moving and lets the whole family be in the photo.
  • Add a hashtag. Ask us to add your church's hashtag or social handle to the backdrop or signs.
  • Reuse it. Order print only for next year's design and use the same stand again.

When to Order

Christmas falls on a Friday this year, with Christmas Eve on Thursday, December 24. We'll send a free proof within one business day, and FedEx Ground shipping takes 3–5 business days to the lower 48 states. Ordering by early December leaves room for proof changes and holiday shipping.
